Well hey there,

the names Alicia, :)

If you are reading this, then you, dear, are taking in words from the newest (I think) addition to the Gozamos familia! Yepp, Abraham decided to add on another intern, ha! So, let me tell you a little bit about myself! …In bullet points, of course. I like bullet points.

• I’m currently in my third year at Columbia College. (Same school Abraham went to!)
• I am the current Vice President (3 semesters deep!) of Latino Alliance (Same org Abraham was President of!)

• I am 21 years old.
• I am studying Marketing/Public Relations.

WHADDUP for generic survey answers! Any who, I am super excited to be working with Gozamos right now, but probably just as nervous. This is actually my first real internship and I won’t lie, going into the first meeting I was so overwhelmed. I started right at the prime time, DURING FINALS WEEK! ..Haven’t slept a wink (could you tell from this 3am blog post?), but hey, that’s college for you.

Real talk though, I can’t wait to really dig into all this work. I’m so excited! I’ve been working with Chicago Fire MLS since March and just started working for Chicago Sky WBNA, so I’m trying to bring everything I’ve got on my plate into this internship.

Did I also mention I love Tumblr? The biggest smile was brought to my face when Abraham mentioned I needed to blog on the G-Tumblr. I’m kind of a pro, so you’ll be seeing a lot more updates from me.

Any who, I hope you all are having fun, getting excited for the holidays! If not, go check out the Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo! It’s fun, free and definitely got me into the holiday spirit. I went a couple days ago and had a BLAST!

Gozamos is tearin’ up the city!

Hey all. It’s been a while, but I am back again with more Gozamos gossip.

Part of making and keeping friends, is FINDING them. It’s kinda tough man, i feel that the worse the economy gets, (ohhhnooo no more economy talk) the more difficult it is to find friends… for various reasons. 

But not for Gozamos. We are so friendly, we make friends wherever we go! We have been having a blast hitting up various festivals and events in Chicago to find friends. Hey, if friends don’t come to you, go find them…don’t be lazy!

We had a totally SWEET experience at Fiesta Del Sol this year. The Gozamos team had a party going with a photo booth, buttons, stickers, shot coasters, t-shirts, and a bunch of cool people. 

Let’s see, we have been to Wicker Park Fest, Clark St. Fest, and events in Pilsen such as We are Hip Hop and Slow and Low, a cool lowrider show. 

I’ve learned a lot, such as how tough it is sometimes to be out there finding friends. It is kind of like finding significant others, many time you will get rejected, but you move on. Get over it. Rejection happens! (Again, not so much for Gozamos, but just in general ;) ) 

We will continue to make the whole city our friend, so stay tuned for where we will make our next stop.

OMG!!!!

I learn something new every day… 

Today, I did some more research on PHP. Some of my goals this summer is to learn PHP, Drupal, WordPress, Sharepoint, and many more….

I’m also learning how make cool T-shirts. Erika tried explaining the process but I still couldn’t understand. For some reason, it’s more complicated for me know how to make a T-shirt than html. 

Learn New Things Everyday

So I lead a pretty hectic life right about now but nevertheless am always learning new things.  I love being able to take in new information and use it to my advantage.  Like I’ve mentioned before here at Gozamos they have given me a lot of opportunity to learn and help others which I absolutely love!!! The past few weeks been working on some tshirts and buttons and I cannot wait to see how they will look…so excited :D

Tip of the Day ( that I learned)

Get rid of what you don’t need and only keep what is absolutely necessary-don’t be redundant :)

Simple is key to great design…in my eyes :)

Google Chromeness

Hello Hello there,

The fun and learning continues on with the Gozamos team.  Each week I learn about something new whether it be event or design wise and even though Tuesdays are my longest working days I always look forward to learning new things.  Recently I’ve learned that it’s all about Google Chrome these days-it’s faster, easier, and safer to use.  I used to be a Firefox addict but now with Chrome in the picture Firefox fell behind.  Google chrome has features that make it easier to design a web page-Who would of thought?  I am done with struggling to find out what the css is behind a web page in Firefox-Now with Google Chrome and its Inspect Element option I am happy to say that it makes my life a bit easier and puts on less stress.  It breaks down the web page in the correct format that makes it easy to understand and all you have to do is highlight the text—how easy is that c’mon…love it!!!!

Why it is important to make friends.

Hello again!

Maria de Garbanzo reporting to you all about why we should not be assholes all the time, and try to get along with each other. I feel that many times, the key to success is making and keeping friends, wouldn’t you agree?

After many years of hating myself for sucking at math, I realized that it is ok. I can draw a better tree than my mathwhiz sis, and am a tad-bit better at making people giggle like toddlers than she is… but she can crack down calc problems like she got uh caculatuh’ in her head! Everyone has different talents, abilities, ideas, projects, and personalities. What if we could all mash everyone’s expertise to build something AMAZING?

Well. That is what I am trying to do… except put some structure into it. I think that Gozamos has the ability to be friends with the world. After all, who doesn’t like Gozamos? Chicago has many great organizations and publications that we are trying to partner up with, so we can all be happy and feed off each other’s awesomeness. Brilliant idea, right? 

I am excited and learning the specifics about turning an arbitrary, “yeeeh that sounds cool, we should talk soon” into “Great. Let’s get started on _____”

So for this week’s Gozamos 101#2, lesson learned is: Be a friend. Make a friend.

GleeK Indeed

Y hello there, my name is Erika Meraz and I am so so so glad and excited to have joined the Gozamos team this summer. I am the Graphic Design Intern and am ready to do some awesome designs for such a great publication and am eager to learn anything and everything I can.  I am ready to create awareness through design and am ready to network with the amazing Chicago Latino Community.

A little about me…hmmm…well I was born and raised in Chicago—lived here all my life and I love it tho I am dying to go to New York and someday I know I will.  I am a recent Columbia College graduate with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design and am ready to get into this design world that awaits my presence. I love anything and everything that has to do with art—it is my passion.  I love love love to draw and dance just as much as I love cats and the tv show GLEE!!!!  I am one true and dedicated Glee fan which is not the same as obsessed…just thought I’d clear that up for you guys.

I am also currently interning with another company doing Graphic Design as well and am very excited to have two great internships that are giving me the opportunity to learn various new skills that will help me build a great and strong portfolio.

Let’s see so far at Gozamos….

• I’ve met some really really awesome people
• Have had some great pineapple/pepperoni pizza for the first time…yummy!!!
• Learned a few things on wordpress
• Looked at some awesome design books from an awesome book collection
• Each week I’m learning more great things about Gozamos
• I learned what a media kit is..yay!!!
• I’ve been designing which is what i love

and the list will go on as I keep learning…so stay tuned for more!!!!

I love Glee…just had to write that…lol  See ya soon :)
